Gentle Care Pilates Program

Beyond Basics Physical Therapy offers a Pilates one-on-one program, who specializes in pelvic floor rehab, pre-natal/post-partum care, orthopedic, sports, and dance-related injuries and is a certified Pilates Instructor. Our program is specially tailored to the needs of patients with the pelvic floor or chronic pain concerns, by addressing the unique challenges faced by such patients in the later stages of their rehabilitation process.

Our classes will guide clients/patients through Pilates exercises, and adapt or modify techniques based on patient's individual needs. In this way, our patients become empowered to safely re-enter the general exercise and movement area, where they can pursue the fitness regimen of their choice.

Our Pilates program welcomes outside clients and non-patients as well. Private one-on-one sessions can be taught according to the level and goals of each client. We encourage all potential clients who are interested in utilizing Pilates to achieve better wellness, fitness, and movement awareness to make an appointment with our licensed PT Pilates instructor.

Kierstin holds a BS in Dance from Wayne State University where she also received her Stott Pilates certification. Her passion for movement, kinesiology, and how the body functions, has propelled her through the fitness industry in New York over the past 5 years. She has delved further into her training garnering a skill set that includes injury rehabilitation, pre and post natal pilates and pelvic floor dysfunction. Kierstin is excited to have discovered Beyond Basics Physical Therapy and could not be more thrilled to join the team!

As a pelvic/core health patient herself, Irene is passionate about empowering her clients to move without fear and get back to activities they enjoy with confidence.

Irene graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree with Individual Concentration in Exercise Science and Dance from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She has over a decade of experience training clients from all walks of life but gravitated toward Pre/postnatal Fitness, women’s health and pelvic floor rehabilitation for men and women following her own experience with childbirth injury and pelvic floor dysfunction. Irene is certified through NASM and has undertaken numerous courses specific to pelvic health, her biggest influences being Burrell Education and Julie Wiebe PT. Read Irene's full bio here.

 

Whether you need help creating a workout plan or have your own, clients will be given a home exercise program to support and help them reach their personal workout goals. It’s a safe space for rehab patients to transition back to fitness. The goal is to get you moving without fear. One of the most important aspects are the education components. Irene helps each client develop strategies to balance their core stability so they can return to activities or sports they enjoy.

Sessions are one-on-one - 75 minutes for the first session and follow-up sessions are 60mins

Yoga with Anne Taylor

 

Anne Taylor is an IAYT certified Yoga Therapist and a Yoga Alliance RYT 500. Anne has been teaching yoga to Beyond Basics Physical Therapy patients for more than a decade. Prior to teaching yoga full time, Anne worked in community mental health and addictions for fifteen years. Anne’s yoga training includes study and apprenticeship with Bio-psychologist and Yoga Therapist Bo Forbes PsyD, Iyengar Teacher Genny Kapuler, TKV Desikachar Yoga Therapist Guta Hedwig and Doula and Prenatal Yoga Educator, Mia Borgatta RN. Anne also studied Functional Anatomy at The Breathing Project with Yoga Educator Leslie Kaminoff.

The combined work and training experiences helped Anne to develop an eclectic approach to teaching where she sees herself equal parts, mind-body mechanic and intrapersonal mediator. She focuses on identifying and understanding the systemic imbalances with the intention of introducing practices to restore functional stability and systemic ease.

Yoga sessions may include simple dynamic movements to facilitate breath, static poses with attention to alignment and/or restorative poses to promote deep relaxation. Anne believes that the practice should evolve over time and reflect the needs of the individual practitioner. Special attention is given to developing sequences to be practiced at home as part of an ongoing commitment to wellness.

Private sessions and small group sessions are available. Yoga and small group sessions run for 60 minute durations.

Students wishing to attend the small group sessions must do a private session for screening and assessment purposes. The small group sessions run for four designated dates.

Acupuncture with PAULA HABERMAN

Paula Haberman, M.Sc., PT., L.Ac., NCCAOM is a New York State board certified licensed Acupuncturist and Physical Therapist. She received her Bachelor degree from New York University in Physical Therapy, and her Masters Degree in Acupuncture Physical Medicine from the Tri-State College of Acupuncture. She has worked in NYC for the past 25 years, both as a physical therapist and acupuncturist, specializing in postural, musculoskeletal, sports and performance related injuries. She was affiliated with the home care Rehabilitation Departments of Mount Sinai Hospital, New York Presbyterian Hospital, and St. Vincent's Hospital. Her practice encompasses physical therapy, traditional acupuncture, dry needling, motor point acupuncture and acupuncture for pelvic floor disorders.

Paula specializes in Percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation, AKA posterior tibial nerve stimulation, the least invasive form of neuromodulation used to treat overactive bladder and the associated symptoms of urinary urgency, urinary frequency and urge incontinence.

Paula was previously part of the faculty of the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (NY campus) as a clinic supervisor and instructor of orthopedic acupuncture. She's been a member of the Beyond Basics Team, specializing in Pelvic Floor Acupuncture for the past 12 years. All sessions, be it Pelvic Floor problems or otherwise, include postural re-balancing, relaxation, and symptomatic treatment.

Professional mentoring for Pelvic Floor Acupuncture, Dry Needling or General Orthopedics is available on an individual basis by request.
