When calling for an appointment, please be prepared to provide the patient's name, address, phone number, birth date, type of insurance, reason for appointment, and referring physician, if applicable. You are also welcome to call at anytime with any questions. Direct Access for Physical Therapy On July 27, 2006, the APTA announced that patients in New York will have direct access to the services of a licensed physical therapist for 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first, after which they would require a physician's referral. This law, signed by Governor Pataki, is effective as of November 27, 2006.
