Acupuncture for Pain Relief
According to recent statistics, more than one-third of Americans suffer from some kind of chronic pain -- pain which can prevent the body from healing and from effectively fighting disease and which may thereby diminish the overall quality of life. At the same time, medication often prescribed for pain may be extremely costly and involve severe side effects. Yet in fact pain can be effectively treated and managed: acupuncture, recognized by the World Health Organization for its ability to treat chronic illness and manage pain, is very effective in treating musculo-skeletal and neurologic pain -- such as arthritis, neuralgia, sciatica, back pain, stiff neck, tendonitis, headache and migraine -- as well as gastrointestinal and gynecological pain.
Traditional forms of Asian medicine, including acupuncture and herbology, have constituted the primary modalities of health care in China for the last 5000 years because by correcting underlying bioenergetic imbalances and helping to restore the body's natural balance and strengthening the immune system, they effectively target the roots of illness -- and do so with virtually no side effects. Xilin Feng Jordan
Xilin Feng Jordan is a licensed Chinese medicine practitioner in NYC, CT, and RI. A diplomate of acupuncture with the NCCAOM (the national regulatory board of acupuncture in the U.S.A.), she was born in China and trained both there and in the United States. Dr. Jordan earned her American degrees at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in NYC, where she completed four years of intensive study in traditional oriental medicine and expanded her knowledge of Western medicine. In China, she took an apprenticeship with the noted acupuncturist, Dr. Zhang Zheng Hai, and treated many serious conditions under his supervison.
From her training in the healing professions, Dr. Jordan, who practiced Qi Gong and meditation for many years, acquired a strong belief in a healthy, well rounded lifestyle. She also practices Thai massage, acupressure, TuiNa, Eastern nutrition. Not only her needles, but her special sensitivity will contribute to an experience of deep relaxation of body and mind and an improvement of overall health that may be anticipated from a course of treatment with her.
Background of Acupuncture
Acupuncture and moxibustion are two of the oldest therapeutic medical methods commonly used in China, Japan, Korea, and other Asian countries. Having originated in China, they began to become better known in the United States in 1971, when New York Times columnist James Reston reported in some detail about how doctors in China had used needles to ease his abdominal pain during and after emergency surgery.
Acupuncture and moxibustion involve inserting needles or burning rolls of moxa (a Chinese herb) on or over the acupoints or along the meridians. The purpurse of so doing is to stimulate the body in its own ability to regulate homeostasis and enhance the vital forces (the life energy); in other words, to call the nerve, endocrine, and immune systems into action in order to restore balance, to dissolve bioenergetic "traffic jams," to clear up toxic 'debris' in the organism. It is an wholistic way of healing, one whose processes hew close to those of nature itself and leave no side effects.

What is Chinese medicine?
Chinese medicine is an ancient therapeutic art backed up by 5,000 years of history.Acupuncture, Moxibustion, and Chinese herbology have been the primary methods of healing in China for several millennia. Their validity has been established by excellent results, commonly achieved with few or no side effects. Though still highly regarded as an art, Chinese medicine has evolved over the centuries into a science of its own, a science of energy.
Illness is defined by an imbalance in the organism's energy at the physical, emotional, and or spiritual levels. Such imbalance can be caused by many factors, including stress, a weak immune system, or trauma.
Chinese medicine is effective because it aims to restore harmony to the body, mind, and soul as a whole, rather than looking primarily to a more or less temporary relief of symptoms.
